Maternal Mental Health Service - Referral Form 

(Reproductive Trauma and Maternal Loss)

The Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS) is a specialist psychological therapies service, that aims to support women who are not currently pregnant but are experiencing moderate -severe mental health difficulties resulting from trauma and loss within their reproductive, maternity or neonatal journey. This includes experiencing any of the following events within the last 12 months:

  • Three or more consecutive miscarriages
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Stillbirth
  • Miscarriage between 14 and 24 weeks of pregnancy
  • Pregnancies referred to Foetal Medicine where the pregnancy is not expected to continue
  • Medical termination of pregnancy
  • Neonatal death (within the first year of life)
  • Unsuccessful IVF treatment leading to significant psychological distress
  • Primary tokophobia (intense fear of pregnancy or childbirth) in women not currently pregnant

Please note this service is only currently available to women who are registered with a GP in Hull, East Riding, North and North East Lincolnshire. Plans are underway to mobilise into North Yorkshire and York in the near future.

The MMHS Team 

The team consists of experienced professionals with expertise in reproductive trauma, loss, and women’s mental health.

The offer includes:

  • Specialist advice and consultation
  • Psychological assessment and formulation
  • Psychological therapies (evidence-based treatments tailored to your specific needs)
  • Support for planning future pregnancies
  • Joint working with other services, including GPs, fertility clinics, maternity services, and mental health teams

Welcome to the second trimester!

Your baby is about the size of a small lime and weighs approximately 14g.

You have hopefully seen your midwife for your 'booking in' appointment, if you have not yet seen a midwife please make an appointment quickly, so you can have all of your choices about screening tests explained and offered to you.

This is a also a good time to talk and sing to your bump as your baby can now hear sounds. This is great way for you and your partner/family to bond with your baby.
