Antenatal day service

All of our hospitals provide an antenatal day service. You may be recommended to attend here for more advice and checks by your community midwife. Click here for information about the people you may meet in the antenatal period and beyond.

Antenatal classes

Ask your midwife about local antenatal classes which you can access.

Antenatal classes help to prepare you for your baby's birth, giving you confidence and lots of information.

If you are having your baby at Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust and you live in Hull or the East Riding of Yorkshire you are eligible for free antenatal classes please call HEY Baby on 07769671449 for more information or e mail heybaby@hey.nhs.uk.

For classes at York, Scarborough, Grimsby and Scunthorpe hospitals please contact your community midwife for details.

Please remember your community midwife or staff in the maternity unit are always available if you have any concerns or need to speak to someone.

Antenatal pregnancy pack

Francesca Docherty and Emma Gibney-Perinatal mental health nursery nurses (Hull, East Riding, North and North East Lincolnshire) have developed a pregnancy pack which includes information on bonding with baby whilst pregnant, ideas for hospital bags and suggestions for relaxing. 

Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing is a complete birth education programme. It teaches simple but specific self hypnosis, relaxation and breathing techniques to encourage a positive birth experience.

Welcome to the second trimester!

Your baby is about the size of a small lime and weighs approximately 14g.

You have hopefully seen your midwife for your 'booking in' appointment, if you have not yet seen a midwife please make an appointment quickly, so you can have all of your choices about screening tests explained and offered to you.

Your baby is about the size of an avocado and weighs approximately 100g.

Your baby has grown in length and is now the length of a small banana and weighs approximately 300g. Around this time you will be offered your '20 week' scan, also known as the 'anatomy' or 'anomaly' scan.Click here for more information about screening. 

This is a also a good time to talk and sing to your bump as your baby can now hear sounds. This is great way for you and your partner/family to bond with your baby.
