Labour Ward Co-ordinators Framework

Labour Ward Co-ordinators (LWCs) are integral in setting the culture and leading safety standards within the birthing environment and for the wider maternity team. While the LWC role is like other advanced and enhanced practitioner roles in some ways, it is unique in having a wide remit that incorporates leadership, clinical practice, and operational management.

lwc-framework-domainsThe LWC Education and Development Framework provides LWCs – and midwives aspiring to the role – with a pathway of continuous development and supports the workforce to develop their skills and proficiencies to provide high-quality care. The framework also provides the opportunity for senior educators, neonatal and maternity leaders to assess and evaluate the development needs of their midwifery workforce.

Framework competencies and standards are across six domains as illustrated on the left.

A time out day for LWC will take place on 3th June 2025 at Ergo in Hessle, please speak to your line manager to book a place.
